Da Nu’s: Pokemon Direct Reveals New Mega-Evolutions, Pokemon Bank, and More!

Nintendo and Game Freak have just wrapped up their most recent edition of Pokemon Direct and have revealed that in the story, you’ll be receiving both a Generation 6 starter Pokemon (from one of your in-game friends) and a Generation 1 starter Pokemon (from Professor Sycamore). The final forms of the Gen 1 starters are also going to be receiving Mega-Evolutions, which hints at the fact that starter Pokemon across all generations may also be getting them. Below is clear art for each of the new Mega-Evolutions (courtesy of Serebii.net), and the newest Trailer for Pokemon X and Y.

Another new feature is the Pokemon Bank, a paid cloud storage system that will allow you to both store your Pokemon and transfer them between games (and even across generations of Pokemon), using an add-on called the Poke Transporter. There was also confirmation that the previously revealed Special Edition Blue Pokemon 3DS will be released in Europe and the US on September 27th (and will have a matching Red counterpart).

Madarame is back and he’s taking all your bitches!

Kio Shimoku’s Slice-of-Life Otaku culture manga sequel Genshiken: Nidaime -a personal favorite of yours truly- will see the release of its anime adaptation in July. In the July issue of Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon magazine cast members for the roles of both major and minor characters have been revealed; these include:
Yukana (C.C. from Code Geass) as Kanako Ōno
Kazuyuki Okitsu  (Johnathon Joestar from JJBA) as Harunobu Madarame
Rina Satou (Mikoto Misaka from Railgun/Index) as Saki Kasukabe
Naomi Ōzora  as Susanna “Sue” Hopkins
Misa Kobayashi as Angela Burton

Previously announced cast members include Nozomi Yamamoto ( Yukimura Kusunoki from  Haganai) as Chika Ogiue, Sumire Uesaka (Sanae Dekomori from  Chuunibyou) as Rika Yoshitake, Ai Kakuma (Hikari Mariya from Campione!) as female Kenjiro Hato, Kazutomi Yamamoto (Mochizuki from Another) as male Kenjiro Hato, and Yumi Uchiyama (Mayumi Kisaki from Hataraku Maou-sama) as Mirei Yajima. Tsutomu Mizushima (Girls und PanzerSquid GirlxxxHOLiCGenshiken OAV, episode director on first Genshiken) is serving as both director and sound director at Production I.G for the new anime. Michiko Yokote is returning from the previous Genshiken projects to supervise the series scripts, and Junichiro Taniguchi (Yondemasu yo, Azazel-sanNatsuyuki RendezvousMudazumo Naki Kaikaku) is the new character designer.

As a long time fan of this series I will say that the voice talents of Nobuyuki Hiyama and Kaori Mizuhashi as Madarame and Ogiue respectively will be sorely missed (Hiyama in particular is a personal fave of mine; I mean how can he not be when he’s voiced Seraphimon AND BalckWar Greymon, Kouta Hirano [HOTD], Viral [Gurren Lagann], Guy [GaoGaiGar], Hiei [YYH] and LINK!). Still with a cast of this many talented and fresh new faces I expect quality nonetheless and greatly look forward to covering this series when it begins airing later this summer.
